Mtg new lands12/14/2023 ![]() ![]() You will be faced with awkward choices like fetching up basic lands to give you better odds on curving out or a dual to give you more casting options. In most two colour decks you will not be getting them out untapped till around turn five. Realistically in almost all three colour decks with half decent mana bases you are simply not going to get this untapped. You are never getting one of these untapped on turns one or two. If you take away the fact that each land is two types of basic and start to compare these to the other dual lands available these struggle to make the top ten. They will obviously be going directly in the cube however I am not that convinced that they are all that good. They are obviously very exciting for cube as with only one copy of each card the additional redundancy for fixing fetch targets will make things a lot more reliable. Command Beacon is also a way to reduce some commander tax later in the game.So I want to take a look at these new dual lands from Battle for Zendikar. ![]() Buried Ruin is a good option that can also return a mana rock back to its controller’s hand. ![]() Sanctum of Ugin is another colorless land that tutors for a colorless creature. It doesn’t tap for any mana, but it reduces the cost of Eldrazi by 2 and also has an activated ability to search the deck for a colorless creature. Eye of Ugin is a great choice for any Eldrazi deck. On the more monetarily expensive side, Urza’s Saga and Ancient Tomb are very powerful colorless lands. This is simply because they wouldn’t do anything in this deck, since the Commander of this deck is zero colors. A fun fact about this Commander precon is that it is one of the very few that doesn’t include cards like Command Tower or Arcane Signet. Since the card draw costs life equal to the deck’s Commander’s colors, in a colorless deck the life cost is just free. One example of a card included already is War Room, which is a very fun card in this deck. Many of them focus on drawing cards, which is very efficient on lands since they don’t cost any mana early on in the game. Lastly, Horizon Stone is a 5-mana artifact that turns all mana into colorless mana between steps, which is perfect for a deck where all the mana is already colorless.Įldrazi Unbound already features several great utility lands. With a large amount of Eldrazi in the deck, Urza’s Incubator and Herald’s Horn can both provide mana reduction to these high-cost creatures. Expedition Map and Wayfarer’s Bauble allow their controller to search for lands, which won’t be found on many other colorless cards and can help thin the deck for to make Cascade more efficient. Voltaic Key is a cheap artifact that can untap other mana rocks. Mind Stone, Hedron Archive, and Coveted Jewel were already mentioned as card draw spells, but they are also great mana rocks. Sol Ring, Dreamstone Hedron, Thought Vessel, and Everflowing Chalice are all included with the deck and serve as excellent mana ramp. The last use of the artifacts of the deck is to provide mana ramp. It also can automatically attach to a legendary creature on entry, so a commander is a prime choice. Additionally, Mithril Coat gives indestructible. The boots give hexproof and haste, while the cloak gives shroud and unblockable. Swiftfoot Boots and Whispersilk Cloak are other great commander-protecting equipment. Already included in the deck are Lightning Greaves, which is a classic card used to protect commanders. The commander of this deck is very expensive, so avoiding having to cast it multiple times is ideal. Emrakul, the Promised End is great choice for the deck because she can either be cast for a cascade trigger from Zhulodok, or she can be cast as a very cheap spell if the graveyard is already full.Īnother focus of the artifacts in the deck should be to protect Zhulodok. Kozilek, the Great Distortion is already included in the deck, but the other Kozilek card, Kozilek, Butcher of Truth, is a draw spell that also can recycle its controller’s library. Both are incredibly strong legendary Eldrazi that will trigger a very high-value cascade from the commander. Two of the other most obvious choices are the titan that birthed Zhulodok: Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre. Adding cards like Pathrazer of Ulamog and Desolation Twin are better choices than some other cards included in the deck, because they will cascade into other large targets and provide extra Eldrazi synergy. To best utilize Zhulodok, it is best to focus the deck far harder towards Eldrazi synergy. The strategy for a deck with Zhulodok, Void Gorger is far different than Omarthis’, so many of the cards in the precon stray from Zhulodok’s main strategy. The alternate commander of the deck is Omarthis, Ghostfire Initiate, who focuses on +1/+1 counters on colorless creatures and manifesting cards from the top of the library. ![]()
